11/6/08 - Fat Angel made the trip down to Douglas, GA for the National BBQ Festival, which consists of two events: the Best of the Best Invitational and the Smokin’ on the Square Open. We had an absolute blast meeting and hanging out with a bunch of new teams. We were fortunate to be in FBA (and winners) row! Thanks and Congrats to Rub and the Swamp Boys (GC Open), Big Papa's Country Kitchen (GC Invitational), Mount Dora Bar-B-Que Company, Big Daddy Q, Bub-Ba-Q, Bubba Chucks BBQ, and the Barbecue Crew. The Florida guys know how to party and they showed us Yankees how to cook FBA-style events. They also fed us well with their mouth-watering Biscuits and Gravy and Grits. We also had a blast hanging out and playing Butt Darts with the Texas teams.
Thank you so much to all the contest organizers and the hard working ambassadors. Everyone treated us so well and we felt so welcomed in Georgia.
We were lucky enough to hear our name called for 1st place brisket and 7th place pork at the invitational! That made the whole trip worthwhile. Also, watching Loren's beloved Phillies win the World Series at the local bowling alley/sports bar is something we'll always remember. Thanks to Justin, our bartender, for keeping the drinks flowing!
Congratulations to everyone that walked, but specifically the other Northerners—Purple Turtles and Diva Q—for their respective calls. We’re hoping to get invited back next year!
